Neonatal Impact of Maternal Malnutrition

Maternal and child malnutrition is highly prevalent in developing countries, resulting in substantial increase in mortality and overall diseases burden. In fact, maternal and child malnutrition is the underlying cause of millions of deaths, of mothers and children, especially in Africa. Doubtless this fact is one of the major scandals of our time, and a shame for our human being condition.Several names have been used to designate the same problem: malnutrition, under nutrition, undernourishment, etc. But the concept is clear: Unbalance between the intake of nutrients and the needs of metabolism, whether it is for inadequate availability of food or for inadequate utilization by the organism.The malnutrition and its consequence threaten African people in vast areas of the continent. The inadequate food and health care, affect specially women, along their whole life.
