Bringing Tadao Ando’s Design for the PFA to Life

The building was completed and opened to the public in October, 2001, shortly after the September 11th terrorist attacks. The building took on an unexpected new role, as several visitors remarked that its serenity and contemplative nature gave them a quiet, calming place to process the events of that day. Almost five years later, as this is written, for all the work that went into realizing the building, that serenity and contemplative nature remain the most remarkable aspects of this most remarkable project.
