The use of delta frames and a single plane of continuous stays through the pylon offer a unique combination of innovative engineering and reduced material and labor costs through the careful balance of efficient details. Even though the delta frames are a distinctive structural element, the use of effective and standardized details minimized the Contractor’s learning curve, simplified its formwork and permitted efficient placement of rebar and post-tensioning. The close agreement between the field measured and predicted strains validates the adequacy and accuracy of the assumptions and analysis used in the design. As predicted by the analytical models, data collected from the instrumentation program confirmed that the bottom chord does not crack during stressing of DF1 though DF3 tendons.
