Serum antibodies reactive with recombinant Sm-hPAF (rSm-hPAF) and synthetic peptide subunits (N-terminal portion of Sm-hPAF) were measured by ELISA in patients with Kawasaki disease (KD) compared with other febrile diseases and healthy subjects (control groups). The antibody titers to rSm-hPAF and a synthetic peptide representing the N-terminal 186-205 amino acid residues in the sera from patients with KD were significantly higher than those in the sera from two control groups. Measurement of the presence of anti-rSm-hPAF and anti-synthetic peptide portion antibodies may provide a tool in the serological diagnosis of KD (acute phase).
