Washing is an important phase of hardening process. After the cooling bath in oil, pieces have to be washed. An important quantity of oil is lost through the pieces and normally is a good quality of oil that theoretically could be reused. But it is contaminated by water Water is one of the contaminants of oil with solid particles, oxidation deposits (resins) and cracking deposits. Of all water is the most dangerous because any moisture which can come in contact with the oil, can cause an explosion. Water causes an enlargement of volume, when it changes from fluid to steam. One litre water means 1,7 litre steam. When it is contained in a closed component, it creates a huge pressure ( at 400°C it means 300 Bar ) and the results is an explosion. Even the organic material can cause by high temperature an enlargement of volume and generate an Explosion, In order to avoid this problem it is possible to dry the but with a desorbing process.
