Active oxygen and free radicals are involved in metabolism in cells and tissues. Although a few immunohistological studies of related enzymes have recently been reported, there has been few information on the morphological dynamics of these enzymes in the dental pulp, Materials were five-week-old normal and NOS1 (n-NOS) knockout (KO) mice, Thin sections were prepared, and expression was investigated by immunohistochemistry using e-NOS, and n-NOS antibodies. In the dental pulp of the control mice, n-NOS expression were positive, e-NOS was weakly positive, In NOS1 KO mice, the positivity of e-NOS expression was stronger in fibroblasts and endothelial cells around blood vessels. The expression of n-NOS was negative in NOS1 KO mice. e-NOS compensate for n-NOS deficiency in vascular endothelial cells and fibroblasts in the dental pulp.
