International competition and the corresponding pressure on prices are giving the manufacturing industry cause to reflect on all measures of maintaining global competitiveness. We have to recognize that Germany is a "world champion" in high-wage cost level and high non-wage labour costs. At the same time, it must be realized that the increasing amount of safety-at-work and environmental protection legislation, especially in Germany, represents a significant cost burden to manufacturing industries, which is not borne by operators beyond German borders, especially in the Americas and in the Asia-Pacific regions as well as in Eastern Europe. To clarify this situation, I would like to give you a survey on several aspects in the industrial lubricant industry and on how the same issues are handled and managed in different areas, where we are facing global competition in the manufacturing area.
