For reliable triaxial or multiple {hkl} residual stress analysis results it is essential that the peak positions are accurate in an absolute sense. In this paper a set of analytical formulas describing the effects of peaks shifts due to remaining alignment errors is tested on a stress-free reference specimen. With the misalignment parameters obtained software corrections can be applied on measured peak position in stress measurements employing combined tilting (χ-tilt and to-offset).
