Calculation of strip profile, i.e. thickness distribution across the strip width is an important part of both mill set-up and flatness analyses. Strip profile at the exit of the roll bite can be considered as the sum of the following components: roll stack deflection and flattening due to applied roll force and bending forces with a certain effect of the incoming strip profile; roll ground crown; wear; and thermal camber. This paper attempts to improve the accuracy of strip profile calculations by taking into account the non-uniform distribution of the specific force or force per unit width along the transverse direction.
