Typhoon Etau arrived in Hokkaido, Japan, on 9 August 2003. Because of incomplete embankment protection, there was flooding, bank erosion, and transport of sediment and driftwood in great quantity, particularly on the Appetsu River in the Hidaka district. This study attempts to reproduce flood and deposition on the floodplain by numerical calculation. Steady flow calculation is conducted using the peak discharge of this flood event. Unsteady calculation is simulated using the calculated hydrograph. Sediment transport is calculated using the transport equation for suspended load. Discharge, bed load, and bed height change in the flood region are calculated using a generalized coordinate system. The characteristics of the flood during Typhoon Etau on the Appetsu River are clarified.
