Multidirectional instability of the shoulder joint can be characterized by joint movability considerably different from the average, to be perceived in the sagittal and horizontal planes. In order to analyze stable and instable shoulder joint movements, the authors use a ZEBRIS CMS-HS ultrasound-based movement sensor and a related measurement program developed by them. Kinematic characteristics were identified in the case of 50 healthy persons and 15 patients suffering from multidirectional instability of the shoulder joint, including scapulothoracal, glenohumeral, humerus elevation angles, angle changes, scapulothoracal and glenohumeral rhythm, and the relative displacement between the rotation centers of the humerus and the scapula, as well as the activity characteristics of 12 muscles. The tests performed justified that instable shoulder joints significantly changed the kinematic and muscle activity characteristics of movements. Kinematic and electro-myographic measurement results can be used in the diagnostics of shoulder diseases and in tracking the physiotherapy process or rehabilitation processes following surgery for various shoulder diseases.
