Opportunity Analysis of Change Requests in Automotive Projects

This paper analyzes essential aspects for reaching project success, projects that develop new products. It depends mainly on two factors: the project lifetime and changes triggered by very fast development of new technology. In automotive projects, as there are many interfaces to newly developed communication devices, there is a difficulty in holding the project timeline. An automotive project lifecycle can last up to six times longer than the time required for development of new technology. This article presents a specific case of integrating new communication devices in an already running project, which leads to implementing new requirements. Applying classic project management methods will lead to the impossibility of implementing new requirements without breaking the project milestones. The scope of this paper is to identify a method to decide if implementing a late change request leads to the expected advantage in the market later.
