摘要

Aims: Tillering is an important developmental phase of sugarcane production system contributing to steady yield. The aim of this study was to understand the process of first tillering emergence time in sugarcane. Methods and Results: Four sugarcane cultivars with different tillering pattern were planted at the research farm of JIRCAS-TARF, Ishigaki, Okinawa, Japan. A number of traits concerning first tillering emergence day (FTED) were studied by digging out the plants. The cultivars showed differential behavior for FTED. The FTED was found to be related to the number of scales and node order of first tillering emergence. Conclusion: The higher node order of first tillering emergence delayed the FTED and the smaller node order has a limit by naturefor contributing to the FTED.
