Mandibular dental implants in children with anhidrotic ectodermal dysplasia: a case report

Introduction: Children affected by Anhidrotic Ectodermal Dysplasia (AED) show hypohidrosis, hypotrichosis, hypodontia or anodontia. Conventional prosthetic rehabilitation with removable denture fulfils neither functional nor aesthetic criteria. Surgical placement of 2 Ankylos dental implants in the lower jaw increases prosthesis retention. Materials/Methods: First, a complete removable denture is made for the mandibula of a 10 year old boy with mandibular anodontia. Then, under general anaesthesia, two implants are placed in the mandibular symphysis and two precision attachments are connected. Discussion: Implants improve the prosthesis stability and increase the comfort of the young patient. Conclusion: This is the first report of placement of attachments in the same stage than implants, in a child with AED.
