The physical chemist vant' Hoff ( 1852-1911 ) presented in 1901 a general mathematical parameterization of the reaction rate constant [ 1 ]. This general formulation implies special cases that are connected to the names of Berthelot, Arrhenius and vant' Hoff himself. The state of the art today is the reaction rate constant according to Arrhenius. The ideas of Berthelot and vant' Hoff were more or less forgotten in the past. In the last two years research workers revived the old ideas. In this paper the principal formulations are cited from the old work of vant' Hoff in 1901. This leads to a general theoretical form of the reaction rate constant k=k(T). It is shown that Berthelot and vant' Hoff are equivalent to each other because the reaction rate constant is proportional to temperature T in both cases. But Arrhenius assumed that the reaction rate constant k(T) is inverse proportional to the temperature T. This assumption is still state of the art today.
