A theoretical model of the impact of workforce management practices on workforce agility is developed and tested. Plants that emphasized process-focused training, provided greater on-the-job training through rotation, maintained better labor climate and designed positive reward structures experienced higher workforce agility. Such plants were more likely to transfer their employees to temporary bottleneck areas, resulting in improved performance.
