DE recycling in industrial operation - result from 6 months operation with BeFiS

With a newly developed process for clarification of beer with regenerated filter aids, numerous filtration trials under production conditions (250 hl/h) have been successfully completed in the Altenburger Brewery, near Leipzig, Germany. Various filter aid mixtures using different D.E.-grades have been used for filtrations. Simultaneously to this filtration step the beer have been stabilized with silica gels and single used PVPP. The utilized filter aids D.E., silica gel and PVPP has been regenerated up to five times and thus in connection with the first suspension (precoat and body feed) used six times for the filtration under economical conditions (e.g. 80 % kieselguhr savings). The filtration qualities complied with the quality requirements of sales beer. More than 120.000 hl of Altenburger beer is filtered with regenerated DE and PVPP and sold.
