摘要

Much of the experimental work in coastal engineering makes use of random waves. However, in the analysis of such experiments the phase in the evolution of the wave system is not usually regarded as very important. The results are usually analysed either in terms of individual wave statistics or overall power spectral density. In this paper we demonstrate that phase does contain valuable information on the physics of wave interactions with coastal features and that the deliberate manipulation of phase in physical experiments can be a useful and powerful approach.
