摘要

Non-contact detection of cumulative damage stored in composites has been carried out using microwave (50 to 75 GHz) reflection spectra. A glass fiber-reinforced plastic composite material was used to confirm the viability of the application of the electromagnetic waves. The method was applied to an oxide fiber-reinforced oxide matrix ceramic matrix composite material. It was proved that the procedure was effective for detection of the dielectric constant changes in the composite, which related to the damage accumulated within the composite. The damage behavior and the changes are discussed in terms of nondestructive evaluation for oxide fiber-oxide matrix composites.
