EVALUATION OF THE MAINTENANCE ENGINEERING ELEMENT IN AIR FORCE CIVIL ENGINEER SQUADRONS

This 2004 study took, in part, a service quality approach to evaluating maintenance engineering elements at five U.S. Air Force bases; analyzing perceptions and expectations. A 1997 AF Review reported that the initial implementation (1992) of the maintenance engineering element in Civil Engineer Squadrons was ineffective. Self-evaluation surveys were designed and queried 106 respondents. Results showed that the internal customers are now better aware of the element's roles and objectives. "Service and Utility Contract Management" was a strength, while "Project Reviews" might need further attention. This paper concludes with comments on this method's potential applications in other engineering management situations.
