A bovine cDNA microarray with 9,600 elements printed in duplicate was surveyed to characterise the gene ontology (GO) of its clones with reliable functional annotation. The distribution of the resulting GO terms was compared to the one obtained usingonly the differentially expressed (DE) elements previously reported for three experiments. Probability values to identify over- and under-represented GOs were obtained from the hyper-geometric distribution. A higher proportion of genes, whose junction isclassified in GO terms as cell motility or muscle development, are DE than other genes, while genes whose function is nucleotide or nucleic acid binding are less often DE than other genes.
