New experimental results from the ITEP-PNPI collaboration are presented on the asymmetry in backward elastic scattering of negative pions on polarized protons in the resonance region. The data were obtained in the angular region (150° - 170°) cm. at initial momenta 1.78 and 2.07GeV/e. The results are compared to the predictions of partial wave analyses. The measurement was done at the ITEP accelerator.
