The use of Wood-Fibre/Plastic Composites (WPC's) has shown dramatic growth over the past several years, and this level of growth is anticipated to continue into the foreseeable future. Some basic information on WPC's in the marketplace will be presented. While the dominant process used to convert these materials is currently extrusion, injection molding is becoming more commonplace. However, the very nature of WPC materials demands that certain parameters be taken into consideration, if properties are to be maximized, and be reproducible. These are more critical in the injection molding process. These processing limitations, and the reasons for them, will be discussed, and some of the common pitfalls will be addressed. To the maximum extent possible, examples of products currently being molded will be presented.
