Conception of a Programmable Platform for Application in Mobile Robotics

In this paper, the development of a low cost mobile robotic system is presented. The objective of this work is the implementation of a programming system, navigation and control for the realization of experiments in mobile robotics. The system is divided in two main parts: (I) mobile robot with several mechanical devices, such as motors, sensors, PWM generator, and hardware of communication protocol (robot-computer), and (ii) an user-friendly graphical environment for programming, simulation, and dynamic behavior and control analysis. The mobile robot is built with low cost material with basic control architecture implemented with a microcontroller PIC 16F877 (Microchip) and apersonal computer.An application was developed to validate and test theproject. It consists of a software that gives to the user a graphic environment and makes it possible to program, simulate and to monitor the robot running at given trajectories using reference points or the tracking of a black line painted in a reflexive/white base floor.
