The increasing amount of UV-B radiation reaching the earth's surface due to depleted levels of stratospheric ozone layer poses a serious concern regarding the deleterious effects of these radiations to biosphere. Several reports indicate various adverse effects, especially to plant. Prolonged exposure to UV-B light results in decreased dry weight, photosynthetic efficiency and growth rate of plant. However, plants possess a variety of mechanisms to ameliorate the damage caused by UV-B light. The aimof this work was to get the growth response of rjce seedlings and changes in the composition and distribution of carbohydrate when exposed to enhanced levels of UV-B radiation.
