Broadband cable television transmission with multiple analog and digital channels using GI-POF

POF has the potential to become the universal transmission medium of future home networks. In this paper the possibilities of GI-POF for cable television (CATV) transmission up to 862 MHz are investigated. A laser driver with high bandwidth and high linearity was realized. 16 digital channels, each with several digital programs, and 37 analog channels were used for transmission experiments. This CATV signal carrying more than 170 TV programs was transmitted using 25 m of PMMA based GI-POF with 1 mm diameter with good signal-to-noise ratio, low intermodulation, and low bit error rate.
