The developments of the application of the peroxyoxalate reaction in the last 25 years in analytical chemistry have made possible the detection of traces of H2O2 and derivatized fluorophores..' Mechanistic studies and the elucidation of the reaction steps leading to light emission can bring more knowledge which may lead to new developments and improved detection methods (Fig 1).
