This paper describes the analytical finite element modeling, ambient vibration measurements and finite element model updating of a Two-plate girder bridge. The bridge has two continuous spans and consists of two steel plate girders with pre-stressed concrete deck and elastic bearings. Ambient vibration testing was conducted on the bridge to determine its dynamic characteristics. An Enhanced Frequency Domain Decomposition technique was used for the output-only modal identification. The 3-D finite element models were constructed and analytical model analyses were then performed to calculate natural frequencies and mode shapes in the 3-orthogonal directions. The finite element model of the bridge was updated manually so as to match the modal parameters obtained experimentally. Resulting from the updating, the practical meaning of the changes to the assumed model parameters was discussed. Also, the dynamic characteristics of the bridge were clarified by field tests and finite element analysis.
