The problem of a penny-shaped crack in an elastic solid accounting for the effect of couple stress is considered. A concise general solution is obtained using the operator theory. Then the potential theory method proposed by Fabrikant is employed and extended to analyze the problem of a penny-shaped crack embedded in an elastic medium with couple stress. For certain loads, we are able to derive exact and explicit expressions for all 3D field quantities at any point in the elastic medium.
