Calvarial expression of the BMP antagonist Noggin is localized to patent sutures. Over-expression in the normally fusing murine posterior frontal (PF) suture has been demonstrated to result in impaired osteogenesis. The specific effect of noggin suppression on osteoblast differentiation and subsequent suture fate, however, remains unknown. The aim of this study was to therefore evaluate changes in osteoblast bone forming potential in the absence of Noggin using RNA interference. Both histological and gene expression analyses were performed to assess for any differences in osteogenic capacity engendered by suppression of Noggin.
