Cephalometric Profile Analysis of Soft Tissue Changes Following Surgical Assisted Rapid Palatal Expansion

Cephalometric prediction is an important step in orthodontic-surgical planning. Surgical palatal expansion is sometimes required when orthognatic surgery is indicated. Soft tissue and skeletal changes secondary to this procedure, may cause alteration in surgical planning, due to possible profile changes.Several studies demonstrate significant alterations of facial aesthetics in frontal view after surgical assisted rapid palatal expansion (SARPE). Transverse parameters such as alar base width and smiling, are usually modified after SARPE ( BERGER, 1998).
