We present a novel concept to determine a set of relevant biochemical markers for applications in the field of emergency diagnostics. Our modular setup comprises a disposable polymer disk which hosts microfluidic structures and optical elements for an integrated beam-guidance. The portable analyzer as reusable component features a standard drive to spin the disk, low-cost lasers as light sources and a spectrophoto-meter as flexible detector for different assay formats. The competitive performance of the setup was proven by the rapid and accurate determination of glucose, alcohol, and hemoglobin of human whole blood via absorption measurements. Striking benefits are a full process integration including metering, mixing, and sedimentation of the cellular constituents, and a short time-to-result.
