摘要

Beardsley, the 19th century British illustrator, got his great artistic success almost by his self-study. He derived the artistic inspirations from many artists, several painting schools and styles, among them the significant ones are Pre-Raphaelite painter Burne-Jones, Andrea Mantegna in Renaissance, William Morris, the founder of the Arts & Crafts Movement, American painter James Mcnail Whistler. In addition, Japanese Yamato-e woodcut, Greek vase painting and Baroque and Rococo artistic styles also play an valuable role in his illustration. What is more important, Beardsley developed an extraordinary style from the assimilation of these various styles. His limited working days are a period of constant pursuit for change and study.
