Radiant cooling system is gaining popularity as a promising technique for improving indoor thermal comfort. Correct evaluation of the heat flux density is important to the radiant cooling/heating system's design and operation. This study presents an experiment-oriented investigation on how to determine operating parameters of radiant panels. Experiments are conducted in a climate chamber under various combinations of inlet water temperature and operative temperature in cooling mode. The results reveal an inherent relationship between heat flux density and panel surface temperature, i.e., the two parameters are mutually constrained within a rhombus. The results reported in this paper would assist us to better understand the operating characteristics of a radiant system under variable operation conditions for improved indoor thermal environment control.
