For the evaluation of outdoor thermal comfort, we propose a model to analyze the influence of solar absorption on the skin and clothing on a sensible heat balance between skin and the surrounding environment, considering clothing distribution. The model reveals that the solar radiation absorbed at the skin has a larger impact than the solar radiation absorbed by clothing, even if their amounts are the same. We estimated the operative temperature including the effect of solar radiation on subjects wearing summer sports uniforms made of the same polyester with different colors. Light-colored sports uniforms exhibited larger solar reflection by the clothing and larger solar absorption by skin than dark uniforms. As a result, the calculated operative temperature was almost the same despite the difference in color.
