Liver transplantation (LT) is the only potentially curative treatment for some of the hereditary forms of amyloidosis such as familial amyloid polyneuropathy (FAP) and hereditary systemic fibrinogen alpha a-chain amyloidosis (AFib), The explanted livers may contain traces of amyloid in the hilum but are otherwise normal, and since 1995 over 300 livers explanted during liver transplantation for FAP, have been used as donor grafts in sequential domino liver transplants (DLT) world-wide, Between 1996-2006, we utilised 9 FAP and 2 AFib explanted liver grafts for sequential domino transplantation in patients with liver cancer or end-stage liver disease, and report here the medium-long term outcomes.
