INFORMATION DISTRIBUTION IN SOCIO-TECHNICAL SYSTEMS: A CASE STUDY IN EDUCATION

Information is an essential component of socio-technical systems and the redistribution of information within a socio-technical system can impact system behavior. One form of redistribution is to embed metainformation in interfaces used by system participants. Conceptual attributes, contextual attributes, and relational attributes are proposed as aspects of information useful for describing and cataloging information. Modifying the accessibility, format, or organization of these attributes changes the information distribution of the system. The work domain of education is explored a case study wherein access to and presentation of these attributes is modifiable.
