The role of the mRNA that sperm carry

It has been reported that fundamental research has changed the concept of sperm, since mRNA has been detected in sperm. However, the role of mRNA that the sperm carries is not clear. Clusterin, Protamine-2 and WNT5A exist in the testis, sperm, and the fertilized egg, but these do not exist in the ovum. We examined changes in these genes using a rat model with dysfunction of spermatogenesis.As a rat model of the dysfunction of spermatogenesis, we developed a cryptor-chidism model rat. We examined the normal testis and the contralateral undescended testis. At twelve weeks old, we sacrificed the model rats and harvested the testes. We examined the spermatogenesis by the hematoxylin-eosin staining and TUNEL staining. And the quantity of mRNA was examined by the RT-PCR.
