The Central Role of Leadership in the Changing Paradigm

A paradigm shift has erupted on a global level. It involves a quickening of process improvement as a key element but most of all on a new leadership. Hessel, Mooney and Zeleny (1988) identify pre-management, traditional management and process management as three waves of activity. It is the latter largely self-coordinated, which is emerging as the pre-eminent model for the future. Within the context of the new quality paradigm, it is assumed that processes will be designed to meet the needs of the individual or group and secondly variation will be reduced around the target as defined for a particular market segment. All of this in an environment highly charged and conducive to innovation.
