LIQUEFACTION AND HANDLING OF LARGE AMOUNTS OF CO_2 FOR EOR

Since 1989, regular transport of commercial liquid CO_2 by ships has been established in Northern Europe. This technology can be adjusted for the large quantities of CO_2 needed for EOR (Enhanced Oil Recovery) at North Sea oil fields, Feasibility studies have been carried out to find practical and cost effective ways of producing and handling liquid CO_2, focusing on quantity rather than purity. In order to reduce investment costs of storage and ship tanks, it is required to operate as close to the triple point of 4.17 barg and -56.6 °C as practically feasible.
