A Target Recognition Algorithm about Long-distance Propagation Infrared Image

Long-distance propagation infrared images in sky -sea background have some characteristics, such as the low target-to-background contrast, great noise, edge blur and so on. So target recognition becomes more difficult. Aiming at long-distance propagation infrared image characteristics, target recognition was researched. An algorithm was presented based on improved median filter and image sharpening. Improved median filter was applied to infrared image to reduce image noise. Then Laplacian sharpening was applied. The simulation experiment result was satisfied. Some problems about feasibility in engineering realization were analyzed. So a conclusion was obtained. For target recognition about long-distance propagation infrared image, improved median filter is first applied to infrared image, and then Laplacian sharpening is applied to the image. Target recognition can be effectively realized. In addition, the algorithm is in favor of system real-time.
