In most existing smart networked alarm systems, the control and status signals are transmitted in PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) using DTMF (Dual Tone Multi Frequency) technology. It needs establish connection before data transmission. But it is proved that the running cost of the existing systems is high because of the frequent signals transmission, and the response time is too long. A novel method is proposed in this paper to design a smart networked alarm system based on CID (Calling Identity Delivery) technology. The system formed by this method has advantages of shorter response time and lower running cost. The networked system, which consists of user terminals and control center, can transmit data to the control center rapidly through phone lines after alarms are touched off in the case of on-hook and off-hook. The realization of the system control functions and communication protocols under single terminal mode and multi-terminals mode are both described in detail. The system runs reliably in practice and performs very well.
