Thermally induced optical distortions in the gain medium are one of the main issues thathave to be overcome when realizing lasers with high efficiency in the fundamental mode.One novel approach to deal with these distortions is the use of an intra-cavity adaptivemirror for compensation. In this paper we demonstrate an Nd:YVO_4-laser with a closed-loop adaptive resonator, achieving a beam quality enhancement from M2 = 5 to M2 = 1.7with a power drop of 5.6 W to 5.3 W at 26 W of pump power.
