This paper investigated how to produce an optimal CFD scheme for the simulation of air pollutant dispersion in a built-up area. The underlying principles related to an optimal CFD calculation were discussed. A case study was carried out to investigation the special considerations associated with pollutant dispersion in built-up environment. Results obtained from this investigation show that for an optimal CFD scheme applied in built-up area the selection of turbulence modeling method is most critical, and thus the accuracy requirement for a specified dispersion simulation should be considered with its computational costs.
