Characterizing Biomedical Waste in Hospitals of Dolj District

摘要

An important issue of environmental protection process is the waste management, that includes responsable planning of collecting, transporting, processing and disposing waste material. Effective management of biomedical waste incorporates a waste reduction and neutralization component where appropriate. An attempt has been made to critically review the current biomedical waste management practices followed by the hospitals of Dolj District - Romania. In the paper the assessment of biomedical waste situation it is taken into account and the quantities of biomedical waste generated in 11 hospitals pf Dolj District are presented. Also, following the rules and legislation both of Romania and of European Union, the methods for segregation, packaging, labeling and the treatment techniques for reduction in volume, neutralization and final disposal of the biomedical waste are analyzed.
