A methodology is presented for synthesis of current-mode analog circuits using piecewise linear (PWL) approximations. The function to be synthesized is divided in to PWL segments such that in each segment the output of the function has a constant slope. Each of these PWL segments with any arbitrary slope can be realized using elementary MOS current-mode circuits. When such current-mode circuits connected in parallel, it is possible to realize piecewise linear approximation of the desired analog function within the allowed approximation error bounds.
