Today, most body shops are using a two component urethane or epoxy automotive refinish primer that in the long run is costing them more in terms of longer cycle times, rework and lost revenue opportunities.Thermal-or infrared-cured automotive primers have in the past been the preferred technology;however, recently a few coatings companies have introduced a new,yet proven, technology to refinishers -UV-cured undercoats.Refinish painters are embracing this technology and finding significant advantages over conventional systems.Automotive refinishers are concerned not only with the cost of doing business, but more recently due to growing regulatory requirements and stewardship awareness, environmental impacts of coatings are also of concern. An eco-efficiency study is one way to examine both the economic and environmental aspects of a technology over its life-cycle.
