Corrosion of reinforcing steel in concrete structures is one of the most significant repair challenges facing owners and engineers today. Bridges and parking garages in cold climates are exposed to de-icing salts and marine facilities around the world typically exhibit deterioration due to chloride induced corrosion. Since the mid 1970's many advancements have been made in the understanding of the corrosion protection requirements for concrete of structures. Simultaneously, development and application of impressed current and galvanic cathodic protection systems to reduce or halt corrosion in these structures has continued. In recent years the development and use of galvanic corrosion protection systems has increased significantly such that galvanic systems are available to provide a full range of corrosion protection levels as required.
