This paper describes a study funded by the NASA Office of the Chief Technologist and conducted by The Tauri Group to identify potential NASA suborbital research partners. The purpose of the study is to identify new research communities that may benefit from research opportunities emerging from commercial suborbital vehicles. Using the inno360 software and search platform and a taxonomy of research areas appropriate for these vehicles, the study methodology is to conduct very deep searches of international research personnel. The result is a comprehensive assessment of communities outside NASA whose research may benefit from suborbital opportunities. The result of the overall study was the research landscape for two areas of research applicable to suborbital vehicles: biotechnology and planetary landing technologies. These results can inform NASA's partnership strategy with a rigorous and exhaustive analytic foundation, targeting high-value collaborations.
