Re-usable space-rocket system. Innovations on development of Russian means of access to outer space

Khrunichev State Research and Production Space Center and Central Research Institute for Machine Building (TsNIIMash) have been carrying out systems and design studies for some years to substantiate a rational configuration of the reusable launch system (RLS). In the 1990s, Khrunichev proposed the Baikal reusable booster project for the Angara family of launch vehicles (LV), whose engineering mock-up was exhibited at Le Bourget and at MAKS in Zhukovsky in 2001.
